Falkland Islands
falkland-islandThe Falkland Islands (Islas Malvinas) of the South Atlantic Ocean are often included on South American cruise itineraries or cruises to Antarctica. The Falklands is a popular port of call because of their interesting history, geology, ecology, and flora and fauna. You may spend there couple of days while on your cruise to Antarctica, visiting New Island, Carcass Island, and the capital of the Falklands, Port Stanley. The ship usually embarks from Ushuaia, a popular embarkation port for cruises to the Falklands and to Antarctica.

2 biggest islands, East Falkland and West Falkland, along with 700 other smaller islands that make up the Falklands are about 300 miles off the coast of southern Argentina and are spread out over about 4700 square miles. Almost 2/3 of Falklands residents live in the capital of Port Stanley, which is located on East Falkland.

The first landing in the Falklands may be on New Island. Here you may also for the first time to see the Zodiacs, and the smooth, sandy beach and calm waters is made for a good practice location.

On disembarking the Zodiacs, you may start the trek up the island to see the colony of rockhopper penguins.
